The Chattanooga Fire Department has a proud tradition of taking care of our own in a time of need. As Chattanooga Firefighters and founding coordinators of the Chattanooga 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb we would like to announce the benefactors of the 6th Annual Chattanooga 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. Over the last few months we, as a Chattanooga Fire Department family, have had a member and a member’s wife take on a battle with cancer. A portion of the proceeds from this year’s climb will be distributed to these two individuals to help offset rising costs in their treatments. Also, the Chattanooga Fire Department started a peer support group to assist any fire department member who is experiencing symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This team is comprised of Chattanooga Firefighters, on each shift, to be available any time the need arises. This program was devised at the need of reducing the growing number of firefighter suicides across the country. A portion of the proceeds from our event will also go to help the financial needs of this peer support group. Finally, if there is enough money raised the Chattanooga 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb will be putting money aside to start a scholarship for any upcoming senior preparing for college.
